Wurzburg and Rothenburg

The ship arrived in Wurzburg Germany in the morning and docked right in the middle of town with views on the left to a castle on a hill and a fortress and to the right was the old town.

Bill and I did our own walking tour rather than take another guided tour. I found a little salon to get my haircut which it badly needed. This guy just started snipping and it turned out lovely. Short but stylish.

We also skipped lunch on the boat in favor of a snack at an old restaurant overlooking the river and its 15th century bridge and with views of nearby vineyards. We tried a sausage platter and a salad with camembert cheese and two glasses of local red wine. The wine was perfect, unlike the flat round bottles of Franconian wine we drank on the ship and on the bus back from Rothenburg.

Restaurant was called Alte Mainmuhle and I found it through a Wurzburg tourist app I had downloaded.

In the afternoon we took an excursion to Rothenburg. It was a beautiful 1 hour bus ride along the Romantic Road with the best guide of the trip, Valerie a British expat. Rothenburg is a well preserved medieval walled city. Bill and I went there on our trip in 1987. He remembers that it had been raining for days and we were just about to change our plans and go home early when the sun came out on our arrival to this lovely city. I was there again in 2002 with the kids and Monika.
