Grand Tetons National Park

Today we checked out of Old Faithful Inn after a quick trip to the store so I could get my National Parks Passport.

Even though we have seen enough geysers and mudpots, we still stopped at West Thumb Geyser Basin on the drive South towards Grand Tetons. What was unique was that the pools were overlooking Yellowstone Lake. The NPS makes it so easy to see the sights…here with a boardwalk and signs at every interesting site.

On to GTNP

When you leave Yellowstone you enter Grand Tetons NP. This park felt like a softer, less harsh place. It was not near as busy, the ground was not bubbling, it did not have the fire damage, there were more aspens and more fall colors plus the weather was sunny and balmy.

We found a pizzeria at Leeks Marina with views to die for and good food. This was important because the food at Yellowstone was awful and expensive. Last night I ate cereal and a banana for dinner because we couldn’t stomach the bratwurst we ordered in Mammoth Hot Springs.

Onward South we drove stopping a t recommended sited from a “best of” book.

Best iconic photo site – Oxbow Bend Overlook. I want to be in one of those kayaks.

Jackson Lake Lodge. View over lake from back porch.

Our version of a selfie.

Jenny Lake. We took a boat from South end of Lake to Cascade Canyon. Then we hiked back around the lake, about 2.5 miles back to car.

Our step count by the end of the day was 23,000 steps. 10 miles!!

Ended our day in Jackson WY where we had trouble finding a reasonably priced hotel. Through Booking.com I found the last room at a place called Parkway Inn which is perfect. It’s in historic district and is very nice plus it has a hot tub and free breakfast. Only $169. Even Motel 6 was full for 140.

Looking forward to bring “home” in Breck tomorrow night.
