Day 5 – Korcula to Hvar

Another long day on the bus. We could have taken a ferry from Korcula to Hvar in just a few hours but instead we drove across the island back to catch a ferry to the mainland. We stopped in the town of Ston where I hiked the town walls to a fortress. We had a group lunch that was rated as the worst meal of the trip. Watery soup and chicken with the texture of an old boot.

After lunch we drove back along the coast of Croatia to take another ferry to Hvar. From there we drove 2 hours to other end of Hvar island to the town of Hvar. The island was basically uninhabitated, very hilly and green with beautiful views of the sea. The town was definitely one of the highlights of the trip.  We had two nights at a quirky hotel right on the harbour where we could watch the ferries and yachts come and go.

We found a great hotel next door to the hotel called Plava Alga. We ordered the fish platter for two which included grilled fish and huge shrimps.
