Day 13 – Samos to Crete

Today we explored the southern coast of Samos before catching a late afternoon flight to Athens and then Crete.  We ended up going to Balla Beach where we rented beach chairs and took a snooze. Water was cold so none of us got in. Had a typical Greek lunch at a taverna hanging over the sea.

Met up with Julie and Burke in Athens airport. She was exhausted having not slept since leaving Pensacola. Burke was rested as he got in a day early and had already explored Athens. We picked up our van in Chania – but there was not any room behind the last row of seats for any luggage. It took us a while to figure out that there was rope and bungie cords to use the roof racks. We crammed in and headed from Chania to Archontiki. It was past 1pm when we arrived, having missed the turn at Episkopi.

John had stocked basic food at both houses and our friends were glad to arrive in Crete. Bill and I stayed up and chatted with John until 2am.
