Day 12 – Ljublanja to Venice

Time to pack up and take our last bus ride on this trip as we move from Ljublanja to Venice. Short ride – maybe 3 hours.Bus drops us off at the airport where they have a van waiting to pickup and transport luggage to our rooms at Venetian hotel. That is best part of this trip… no schlepping of luggage.

Two water taxis take our small group to Murano Island where we watch a glass blowing demonstration. Which was interesting but I wonder if this wasn’t just a way to pass the time before taking us to the hotel. We didn’t have any time to explore the island and noone was even interested in buying expensive glass at this place.

Back to Grand Canal via the water taxi where, a short walk through town to our hotel. Hotel Beneveccia was well located halfway between Grand Canal and San Marcos square. It is an old hotel with tiny rooms but it was fine for us. We are now used to sleeping very close to each other on this trip!

Bonnie and I had lunch at a little pasta place near the hotel. Food was excellent while the prices were made for tourists. Then the hunt for some pretty glass jewelry made in Murano.

The tour included a very nice dinner at the hotel with champagne, wine and very nice food. A few of us “singles” wandered around Venice afterwards. We ended up at San Marcos Square where several orchestras were playing clasical music in front of their restaurants. Another thing I love about Europe in the Summer is beautiful music everywhere and a lively night scene as well.

I’ve been to Venice twice before. Once for a short stay in 2000 with family and then in 2011 on my own for 3 days. It was nice to see this little water city again but it’s just too crowded for me. Even in mid October there was a lot of people everywhere. I think there are many other places in the world and in Italy that I want to see before I venture back to Venice again.
