Cody Wyoming

We took a week long trip to see some of the US National Parks with our friends from Pensacola in August of 2021. We had spent some time prior to this in Utah with the kids.

We left Ogden on August 19th and headed for Jackson, Wyoming to pick up our friends. After a quick lunch at their favorite brewery, we headed for Cody Wyoming. We had reserved through Airbnb a teepee glamping experience which sounded fun at first. Our teepees were located down a hill near the river and had picnic tables and comfy furnishings. Only downside is that the “real” bathrooms were backup the hill near the offices or in a port-a-potty near the tents. Well that was one downside. The second was the rain that night that poured through the opening at the top of the teepee! It is still an experience that we laugh about.

We had dinner on arrival night at the historic Irma Hotel in downtown Cody. It was a great experience. The next morning, which happens to be our 38th anniversary, we headed to the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody and then started our drive to Buffalo Rock Lodge, a bed and breakfast with views of Mt. Rushmore. The owner was a bit odd but the house was a big log cabin home with jacuzzi bathtubs in the bedrooms.

On the 21st we were glad to see the skies were sunny and no signs for smoke from the fires that were raging in the West that summer. We visted Mt Rushmore and Custer Park where took a hike around the lake and had lunch at Blue Bell Lodge in the park. Our celebration dinner was that night in Custer, ND at Skogen Kitchen. The food and the service were outstanding. The place had been recommended by someone we met at wine club. It is a small place and advisable to make a reservation.

Picked up our friends in Jackson Wyoming and headed towards South Dakota. Our overnight stop was in Cody Wyoming. Ed had suggested a glamping experience in a teepee..
